CCP FAQ

Who is CCP Games?

Founded in 1997, we are CCP (short for “Crowd Control Productions”), a leading independently operated game developer. We have been praised for our artistry, game design, unique player-driven narratives, and close and collaborative relationships with our community of players.

In 2018, CCP was acquired by the Korean video game developer Pearl Abyss, creators of Black Desert Online, resulting in the biggest acquisition in Iceland’s tech history to date. CCP now operates as an independent subsidiary of Pearl Abyss.

What are the games of CCP Games?

CCP is best known for the award-winning and critically acclaimed sandbox MMO EVE Online. Set in the star cluster of New Eden, tens of thousands of years in the far future, EVE is an immersive, community-driven sci-fi experience filled with adventure, riches, danger, and glory, where each player can customize their spaceships and choose their own path among the stars. Now in its third decade, EVE Online is renowned for its scale, complexity, and gigantic, world record-breaking in-game battles.

CCP has also produced Dust 514, a multiplayer first-person shooter set in the EVE Universe for PlayStation 3; EVE: Valkyrie, a competitive multiplayer first-person spaceship shooter for PC and PlayStation 4; Sparc, an original virtual sport for PC and PlayStation VR; and the Gunjack series, VR arcade-action games for PC, PlayStation VR, Google Daydream, and the Samsung Gear VR mobile platform.

In addition, CCP partnered with NetEase to release mobile MMO EVE Echoes globally in 2020 and the Chinese market in 2021.

What is in the works at CCP Games?

Several new titles are currently in production and slated for release in the not-too-distant future.

EVE Vanguard is an online multiplayer sandbox first-person shooter (FPS) module for EVE Online, offering interconnected conflict within New Eden. New gameplay, content and interactivity with EVE Online will be added over time, dynamically evolving and improving player experience, and the EVE Universe.

EVE Galaxy Conquest is a multiplayer 4X sci-fi strategy game set within the massive EVE Universe. Here, as in EVE Online, players have the option to combine forces with like-minded allies and form corporations to tackle the greatest challenges. EVE Galaxy Conquest was soft-launched in select territories in November 2023 and is slated for release on mobile platforms and PC in late 2024.

Project Awakening is an independently funded upcoming title within the EVE Universe, leveraging blockchain technology to enhance player agency and autonomy in gaming. Here, players and third-party developers will be given the tools to mold their gameplay experience and shape the virtual world. The game has had very successful playtests and will continue to evolve in 2024 and beyond.

Where is CCP Games located?

CCP is headquartered in Reykjavík, Iceland, which serves as the home of the EVE Online and Project Awakening development teams.

CCP has a studio in London, UK, which is the home of the development team responsible for EVE Vanguard.

CCP also has a studio in Shanghai, China, which houses development efforts for EVE Galaxy Conquest in addition to supporting EVE Online in that region.

Can I visit CCP's studios?

Please be aware that we can only offer studio tours during business hours and tend to close our studios to the public in the run-up to the deployment of expansions and before significant events such as EVE Fanfest.

Where can I buy your games?

CCP makes its titles available digitally, for your convenience. You can find EVE Online over on the EVE Online website as well as on Steam and the Epic Games Store.

What is EVE Fanfest?

EVE Fanfest is the player convention for our incredible community of spaceship pilots hosted by the CCP crew in Reykjavík, the home of EVE Online.

Aside from this officially hosted gathering, the player community hosts unofficial meetups in various places worldwide. Check the official EVE Online forums to see if any are coming up in your area.

What the heck is CCP's CCP Games Games?

Internet spaceships are serious business, but our community has come to expect some eccentricity from us, too. Feeding off of our Viking heritage and our community’s character, every year we host our very own game show featuring devs and players where things get a little weird in the best way possible. As a gaming studio, we’re incredibly honored to have such a special bond with our community, and it’s one of our core values.

What is the CSM?

The Council of Stellar Management (CSM) is a player advocacy group consisting of 10 members democratically elected by the players, along with two additional members selected by CCP from those voted into the top 20, to advise and assist CCP in the continuous development of EVE Online. They are part focus group and part “tribal council”. The CSM brings focused and structured feedback from the community to CCP and represents their views and interests.

LEGAL FAQ

Can I create and/or host my own game server?

No. CCP does not permit the creation or hosting of third party versions of EVE Online or any of our other titles.

Can I compose music with samples from your games?

So long as any music produced remains within the realms of personal use and is not created for commercial purposes, CCP has no issues with audio samples from our titles being used to supplement your compositions.

We always enjoy seeing the incredibly creative results that come from the minds of our players. So long as content of this nature does not infringe copyright or breach our EULA, we have no issue with this.

Can I write novels or short stories or produce cinematics based on your titles?

While we have no issue with the creation of fan content such as written stories, videos, music and artwork, consistency in our backstory and universe is incredibly important to us.

CCP reserves the right to expand our IP to all forms of media, and we want to ensure that any fan-created content is represented as such to maintain the consistency and integrity of our IPs.

So long as the content is created for your personal enjoyment, not for commercial purposes, and is identified as fan-created, we have no issues with allowing the creative juices to flow

Where can I send gameplay suggestions?

While we appreciate the passion and energy that our community has for our titles, we cannot accept unsolicited game, feature, or content ideas for legal reasons.

If you’d like to discuss EVE Online or suggest changes to New Eden, you can do so at our official forums on the EVE Technology and Research Center board.

You can also raise suggestions and discuss changes with the Council of Stellar Management via our official forums on the Council Of Stellar Management board.

How does CCP feel about the use of its intellectual property (IP) for community fan projects?

So long as these projects are for personal use, are non-commercial and remain within the bounds of our EULA, we have absolutely no problem with our IPs being used for fan art, model making, videos and streaming, along with all manner of other fun.

We value the creativity and ingenuity of our community above all else and love nothing more to harness the love that our players have for our titles.

How does CCP feel about the use of its intellectual property (IP) for mods and other game projects?

While we love to see the creative side of our players flourish, we don’t permit the use of our IP, art assets or game content for mods in other games.

We are concerned that this could cause confusion for our community and that they could assume that any such projects are created or supported by CCP.

Can I create my own CCP-themed merchandise??

While we have no issue with our fans creating merchandise for personal use, making any merchandise for commercial purposes that will generate revenue is prohibited and infringes on our copyright. You can find a complete offering of official EVE related merchandise over at the EVE Merch Store.

TOURS FAQ

Do I need to pay a fee for a tour of CCP’s studios?

Absolutely not; studio tours are entirely free of charge. You can learn more about arranging a tour here.

How long in advance should I request a tour?

You should contact officetours@ccpgames.com at least two weeks before your preferred date for a tour. We need at least ten working days' notice for security and internal scheduling purposes to ensure that office tours are timetabled correctly.

Can I stop by CCP without a scheduled tour?

For security and scheduling reasons, we cannot offer studio visits on a walk-in basis. Typically, visitors aren’t recommended to arrive at our offices without a prior appointment, as we cannot grant unscheduled visitors access to the building beyond our reception area in these cases.

Do I need to sign any paperwork in order to visit CCP?

All visitors who venture further into our studio than reception areas must sign a visitor’s non-disclosure agreement (NDA). This is because we may have sensitive information on display on whiteboards and walls around our product development areas.

Can I take photographs in CCP’s offices?

While you’re more than welcome to take photos of our reception area and games room, photography and all forms of recording are strictly prohibited in our product development areas. Your tour guide will point out any areas in which you can photograph.

Can I interview or speak with specific developers while visiting CCP?

If you’d like to arrange an interview with a specific member of CCP staff, you should always contact media@ccpgames.com to do so. We don’t offer the opportunity for staff interviews during tours of our studios; however, if you see any of our developers around the office that you recognize while you’re visiting, you’re more than welcome to say hi!
